Bruchhausen is a village and a former municipality in the Hochsauerland district. The village had 1185 inhabitants on 31 December 2019. In order to avoid geographical confusion, the addition "an den Steinen" is often used to the place name.
Bruchhausen lies in the Medebach valley about eight kilometres south of the town of Olsberg.
The Medebach Valley runs immediately east of the Ruhr Valley. The village is located at 450 m above sea level. The highest elevation in the Bruchhausen area is located at the summit of the Langenberg at 843 m above sea level and is also the highest point in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. East of Bruchhausen are also the Bruchhauser Steine, on the 728-metre-high Istenberg. Around the village lies the Bruchhausen cultural and open landscape complex landscape conservation area.
