The Aggerverband is a public company and one of the eleven water management associations in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is responsible for water management in the Agger catchment area and is based in Gummersbach.
The Aggerverband is responsible for the treatment of wastewater in the Agger catchment area and operates 31 wastewater treatment plants for this purpose. It is also responsible for protection against flooding and low water levels. The central facility is the Agger Dam, which also serves as a service water supply and offers many opportunities for recreational activities. In addition, the Aggerverband operates two drinking water reservoirs, the Genkel dam and the Wiehl dam, with water stations in Auchel and Erlenhagen. Here, the treatment of drinking water of 25 million cubic meters per year for about 500,000 inhabitants is carried out via 20 utility companies.
