Kirchborgum is a village and a district of Weener in the Rheiderland, located in the southwestern East Frisia. The village is situated directly on the Ems and on the federal highway between the Weener city center and the district town of Leer. About 300 people live in Kirchborgum.
The first mention of Kirchborgum dates back to the 15th century. The original Kirchborgum church from 1638 soon sank in the Ems. The current Reformed church was built in 1827 by J. B. Kröger as a hall church in the style of 19th-century classicism. In contrast, the bell tower from the predecessor church built in 1766 has been preserved. The brick church is kept simple and features pilasters and round-arched windows. The interior is characterized by a wooden barrel vault, the Biedermeier pulpit, and the organ of the Rohlfs brothers. The instrument was built in 1876 on the west side with eight stops without aliquot registers on one manual and pedal. For a long time, there was a ferry connection across the Ems to Driever in Overledingerland. On January 1, 1973, the village was incorporated into the city of Weener.
