Altenbödingen is located about five kilometres east of Hennef's town centre on the Nutscheid ridge above the Sieg. The village centre has an altitude of 175 m above sea level. Neighboring villages are Bödingen to the east, Müschmühle to the west, Lauthausen to the south and Bröl to the north. Altenbödingen is located on a high-altitude road, which used to be of great importance as a connecting route between the Rhineland and the Siegerland, but lost most of its importance with the construction of the railway lines in the Siegtal and Bröltal.
