The Hertener Emscherbruch nature reserve is located in the area of the Hertener Mark, town of Herten in the district of Recklinghausen in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
The approximately 81-hectare area, which was placed under nature conservation in 2008 under the code number RE-051, extends southwest of the core town of Herten. The A 2 runs along the northern edge of the area and the L 644 state road on the eastern edge. On the western edge stretches the almost 13 ha Ewaldsee, of which, however, only 0.4 ha lie in the nature reserve or in Herten and the rest in the neighbouring, 38 ha nature reserve Emscherbruch with Ewaldsee in the area of the Resser Mark, Gelsenkirchen. To the west run the L 630 and the L 638, to the south flow the Emscher and the Rhine-Herne Canal. To the southwest – in the area of the two independent Ruhr area cities of Gelsenkirchen and Herne – stretches the 31.5-hectare Resser Wäldchen nature reserve.
