The Krummhörn bird sanctuary is a bird protection area in the district of Aurich as well as in parts of the city of Emden in the state of Lower Saxony. It is about 5,776 hectares in size and is the second largest bird protection area in the district after the East Frisian Seas, and it is also the project area of the LIFE+ Nature project “Meadow Birds.” The district authorities responsible for nature conservation are the district of Aurich, the city of Emden, and the Lower Saxony State Office for Water Management, Coastal and Nature Conservation.
