House Vorhelm

Haus Vorhelm is a moated castle and former castle complex on the northern outskirts of the district of Vorhelm in the town of Ahlen in the district of Warendorf in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

Haus Vorhelm was almost certainly built on the fiefdom of Überwasser Abbey in Münster, whose main courtyard Vorhelm is already documented in records from the 11th century. It is assumed that the Torck family, the oldest known owner family, built the aristocratic residence in the 12th century, although it is not attested until 1413 at Haus Vorhelm. This is evidenced by their occurrence in the Ahlen area since the beginning of the 13th century. After the extinction of the Torck family, Haus Vorhelm passed to the Barons Droste zu Vischering in 1715 via a branch of the von Westerholt family.
