Back Shop with Café in Merfeld
Felix and Anni Grote started with a small bakery in 1948, even before the currency reform. Shortly after, the brave entrepreneurial couple decided to open a small café at the corner of Münsterstraße and Coesfelder Str. In the mid-fifties, the bakery at Butterkamp was built. At the same time, Felix and Anni Grote constructed a residential and commercial building on Münsterstraße; to this day, it remains the headquarters with café of the Grote company. This café was expanded by 140m² in 1970 to a total of 120 seats and renovated in 2007. In 1983, daughter Hildegard and son Hermann opened the Tiber Café at Overbergplatz.
With the establishment of a modern production facility measuring 1100m² at Ostlandwehr, the course has been set for the future. From small, modest beginnings, a renowned medium-sized company with over 80 employees and a total of 10 sales points has emerged. The company Felix Grote is now run by the second generation, pastry chef and master baker Hermann Grote and his wife Annette, together with the third generation, their son Felix and his wife Susanna.
