The beech forests of the Vorderen Odenwald are a Natura 2000 area covering over 37 square kilometers in the districts of Darmstadt-Dieburg, Bergstraße, and Odenwaldkreis in Southern Hesse. The designation as a habitat area 6218-302 was established by the regulation of January 16, 2008.
The habitat area “Beech Forests of the Vorderen Odenwald” is located in the natural region of Vorderer Odenwald, which includes the subareas 145.0 Melibocus-Odenwald, 145.5 Krehberg-Odenwald, 145.6 Neunkircher-Höh-Odenwald, and 145.7 Lichtenberger Höhen. A small area of the Wembach clay pit is assigned to the Reinheimer Hügelland.
