Quarrendorf

Description

Among the prehistoric settlements was also Quarrendorf. Finds of stone and burial mounds, as well as Stone Age tools, testify to this. A Thing place is also evidenced by the arrangement of boulders.

In 1332, the Duke of Saxony-Lüneburg granted the Michaelis Monastery Lüneburg the upper ownership of three farms in Quarrendorf:
Farm No. 1 Meyers
Farm No. 2 Fahlen
Farm No. 7 Stemmens

By 1548, there were already six farms. A multitude of services had to be rendered to the monasteries, foundations, and landlords, which the farmers often remained indebted to. In addition to the tithes, a farm owner had to serve 104 days and a half owner 52 days with a team.

In 1659, the following ruling was recorded by the district court of Pattensen: The gentlemen Frembs, Penzlin, and Kröger were absent when they were to harness for the pig hunt and must pay a fine of 4 Mariengroschen.

In 1626/27 during the Thirty Years' War, the Danes did not discover and destroy Quarrendorf because it was so wooded.

By the year 1725, there were already 11 farm sites. The tithe lordship was owned by the foundation Bardowick.

In 1845, the farmers were relieved of their obligations, and hunting and forestry were similarly abolished. In the same year, the restructuring took place. To cover the costs, the shepherd's cottage was sold. Until the restructuring, all farmers participated in the quite extensive "Almende" or "common land." Before the restructuring, the farmers were beneficiaries but never owners of the surrounding nature. For the farmstead, which included the house, inventory, livestock, and harvest, the concept of ownership applied. Arable, pasture, and forest land were used communally (Almende or Allmende). The restructuring resulted in 13 farm sites with 991 ha:

9 full farms, 2 half farms, 2 quarter farms. 4 out-farms and 1 shepherd, they were not considered farm sites.
The only farm that got its name from its location is the “Neerßen Hof.” Derived from neerden - low to Neederhof. The “Kröger Hof” could have been an inn.

In 1895, Quarrendorf was visited by a major fire. In the village center, 3 residential houses, 3 barns, 1 house for laborers, and a few storage buildings burned down.

Before World War II, the place had 225 inhabitants. After the war, beside the old farms and houses, a new settlement (Heisterberg) was established, where especially displaced persons found a new home. 12 houses with 38 apartments were built, and the population grew to 400. Regarding the landscape, it should be mentioned that the separation between “Lower” and “Upper Geest” is on the Brackeler Berg.
