The Hengebach Castle was built in the 11th century on a graywacke rock. It is one of the oldest buildings in the Eifel region. Over the centuries, the historical walls have experienced a tumultuous history. Various rulers once lived and reigned in the fortress. The lion of the Jülicher nobility still adorns the city coat of arms. The courtyard, walkway, and keep are accessible free of charge all year round.
