Under the protection of Neuerburg, surrounded by the river bend of the Enz, craftsmen and traders settled, organized in guilds.
Their highly sought-after woolen cloths and leather goods brought prosperity to the city and made the Neuerburg markets known far beyond the region. The Trinity of the bailiff's house, the parish church of Saint Nicholas, and the castle still reminds us of this flourishing period in the Middle Ages. The free-standing bell tower next to the church served as a gate tower to the medieval castle ring (donjon).
The great city fire in 1818 caused a breaking point in the city's history with the destruction of the looms. The current market square has emerged from the devastated area. Neuerburg, which has had city rights since 1332, reflects its tumultuous history through its cultural heritage.
