This route starts in Klausen, a village near the Moselle and close to the A1 motorway. The route runs clockwise.
First, you will cycle on a road that is closed to car traffic (only residents are allowed). You arrive in Osann-Monzel and leave the village on a paved road through the vineyards that leads to the Brauneberg. Enjoy a fantastic view over the Moselle at the top. A short but very steep descent (watch out!) brings you back to the Moselle valley.
After crossing the Moselle, the ascent follows to the Haardtkopf with just over 500 metres of altitude, which belongs to the Hunsrück low mountain range. The ascent takes place in three stages: first the wrong flat approach to the village of Burgen, then it really goes over a hidden road in the forest, where there is hardly any traffic (mountain road castles) and at the height of the village of Gornhausen you come out on the quite quiet main road Veldenz - Gornhausen and continue to climb to the summit of the Haardtkopf. The summit is located in a forest. The actual top of the Haardtkopf is marked by a television mast near the village of Gornhausen, but unfortunately the road to the television tower is dead.
Fortunately, the forest soon makes way for beautiful views over the Hunsrück. It then goes a bit uphill and down through the Hunsrück until you finally descend clearly into the valley of the river Dhron via a well-paved inner road between Haag and Merschbach, which becomes steep in the lower part with two tight hairpin bends. Instead of following the river Dhron, they descend from the road via the village of Horath (Bockenberg). The gradients, with the exception of the last kilometre, are continuously 6 to 10%.
A long descent of 10 kilometers takes you back to the Moselle valley. You follow a stretch of road along the Moselle that is not accessible to car traffic. You cross the Moselle to Piesport and cycle through vineyards and then climb the Piesporter Berg via the panoramic road, which offers you beautiful views of the Moselle valley. At the end there are still a few kilometers of slightly descending cycling until you are back in Klausen.
