Description by the author

The route starts at the Waldhotel Louise in Freudenstadt and first leads on car-free roads into the Forbachtal (the asphalt of the second, steepest part of the descent is bumpy). Then you partly follow the Murg Valley Cycle Path (which connects Baiersbronn with Freudenstadt here) to avoid the busy main road in this valley. After the passage from Baiersbronn, it then goes over side roads in the Murg valley to Mitteltal, but that means a short steep climb up to 15%. And it goes over side roads on the other side of the Murg into the upper valley. In Obertal, the foot of the ascent to the refuge lies on a road through the forest that is closed to car traffic. Once at the top, follow the B500 (Black Forest High Road) for about 4 km, 2 km of which are on the cycle path a little off the B500. The B500 can be very crowded with motorcyclists on beautiful Sundays and holidays. The route makes a detour (via side roads) to the panoramic platform Ellbachseeblick, which you finally reach on a 100-meter-long gravel path. Then descend to Kniebis and climb out briefly.

From Kniebis you take the main road to Bad Rippoldsau (Klösterle) and in the second hairpin bend you leave the main road to cycle through the Wolfdal. From Bad Rippoldsau (Klösterle) you climb the Upper Zwieselberg, a very regular climb that is not steep and this main road is not so busy in terms of traffic. After reaching the summit, follow the main road for another 5.5 km and then descend steeply via an inner road to Freudenstadt (descent of the Kienberg (also called Friedrichshöhe)). On the Kienberg there is a lookout tower, from which you have a beautiful view of Freudenstadt. In Freudenstadt, the route also leads briefly to Germany's largest market square.
