Through the Ooijpolder and the Reichswald

While cycling along the dikes, you can enjoy the shipping on the Waal. After cycling through Millingen aan de Rijn, you will pass through the Millingerwaard. You will pass the point where the Rhine flows north via the Pannerdensch Canal, and this is also where the Waal originates. Not long after, you cycle into Germany and along the dike of the Oude Rijn past places like Düffelward and Wardhausen in Griethausen. Here lies Germany's oldest Matalen railway bridge. From here, you cycle along the old railway track to Kleve, reaching the center of Kleve. After leaving Kleve, you cycle through the Reichswald, the largest contiguous forest area in North Rhine-Westphalia. There is also a nice climb in this area. When you are in Kranenburg, you cycle along an old railway where the tracks are still visible. After Kranenburg, you return to the Netherlands with a beautiful view of the hills of Berg en Dal. In Zyfflich, you cycle towards Leuth and if you have hiked the Pieterpad, you might find this familiar as it runs along here. Stop at Thorns Mill and immerse yourself in history while you wait for your coffee or tea. The last part is coming: over the dike to Ooij and then you’re almost there: Oortjeshekken.
