Montferland 1of5 Hoch-Elten

The German town of Hoch-Elten is located at the southernmost point of the moraine. The side moraine is part of the hilly Montferland region in the Netherlands. During the hike, you will pass by old buildings and landscape elements that tell the story of the history of this border area. In the meantime, you will cross the border twice, discover the source of a forest brook, read about smugglers, and see a modern version of tax avoidance.
This hike is the first in a series of 5 and overlaps with the first part of the longer hike from Elten to Wehl.

The route starts at the Tourist Office in Hoch-Elten, where you can safely park your bike or car. Nearby is catering. Elten is accessible by the RE19 train line from Zevenaar or Emmerich. You can do this by bus from Emmerich with the Bus line 94 or from Zevenaar with the Bus line A566.
