Römer Runde

An easy tour of approx. 7 km in length, which combines the idyllic Pfänderbach Valley as the core zone of the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve with a few fields from the Ohligberg and the Schlangenhöhle cave as well as the excavations of the Roman Museum. The hike is suitable for families as well as inexperienced hikers.

The Römer Runde is an easy hiking trail, with the Homburg-Schwarzenacker Roman Museum as a cultural highlight and the Einöd ski and hiking hut as the perfect place to stop for refreshments. The route is often on asphalt and gravel paths. At the start of the loop, it leads along the left-hand side of the Roman Museum to the excavations behind the baroque garden to the Einöd ski and hiking hut. From there, the route leads directly onto the natural path into the idyllic Pfänderbach valley. This is followed by the only ascent on the tour, which leads to the edge of the forest below the mountain farms in Einöd. This is home to many horses and Hans Pick's family in their oil mill. It would make more sense to call the Ohligberg the "oil mountain", because up here Hans has exchanged the "head-sized lump of gold", as described in the fairy tale, for oilseeds of all kinds, which thrive magnificently in the surrounding fields. Camelina oil, mustard oil, milk thistle oil, rapeseed oil, poppy seed oil and hemp oil are on sale in the farm store for those who want to take the detour up to the farm. At the edge of the forest, the hiking trail leads past the fields back to Homburg-Schwarzenacker and past the hidden snake cave, which is also open to guided tours with a nature and landscape guide. Once you arrive at the Roman Museum, the baroque garden and the excavations invite you to linger a little longer.
