The beaver trail leads along winding paths and natural trails through a foothill of the Saar-Nahe mountain region, which means that the route is characterized by several steep climbs. Characteristic features are the protected floodplains and pristine streams where the beavers live.

The 19 km long beaver trail around Berschweiler impresses with a route that is as challenging as it is varied. Over winding paths and natural trails, it takes hikers 6-7 hours through a foothill of the Saar-Nahe mountain region. There are around 650 meters of altitude to conquer. A total of six hills offer magnificent views, some with an impressive 360° panorama.

The beaver trail is characterized by the protected floodplains with idyllic alluvial forests and fish ponds as well as pristine streams where beavers live. Open fields and meadows, diverse deciduous and spruce forests and a fairytale-like valley complete the picture and enhance the nature and hiking experience.

There are also historically interesting places along the Beaver Trail: historical boundary stones that demarcated the Schaumburg region from Nassau Saarbrücken for centuries, quarries that provided the villagers with material for building houses until the 20th century and "Schachen" forests, which Napoleon once sold to improve his war chest.
