Donauberglandweg - vom Albtrauf ins Donautal

This first quality hiking trail in the Swabian Alb leads from the roof of the Swabian Alb to the Upper Danube Gorge Valley. Beautiful churches and chapels, typical Alb juniper heaths, wonderful views from the Alb ridge, imposing views of the limestone cliffs of the Danube gorge as well as caves, ruins, castles and cultural sights lie along our trail in the middle of the Upper Danube Nature Park.

The trail is around 60 km long and lies in a triangle between Sigmaringen, Tuttlingen and Rottweil. The starting point is the Lemberg, at 1015 m the highest mountain in the Alb - a real "thousand-meter peak". We hike along the Albtrauf on the south-western Alb down to Beuron, the world-famous abbey town and center of the Upper Danube Nature Park.

The trail is divided into four easily manageable stages (each covering around 15 km) and can also be hiked in the opposite direction from the monastery parking lot in Beuron to Lemberg. The route is signposted in both directions, so you can find your way even without a map.
We cover a total of around 4,500 meters in altitude (sum of ascents and descents), whereby we are in the most beautiful landscapes of the southwest Alb. Around 40 percent of the route runs along natural paths and romantic trails.The Donauberglandweg was awarded the "Leading Quality Trail - Best of Europe" award for the first time in 2018 and again in January 2022.
