Hike: Explore Cottbus along the Spree

Approximately 25 kilometers the Spree River flows through the Cottbus city area. There is much to discover on the left and right. Start your exploration tour in the middle of Cottbus at the tourist information. Via the Puschkin promenade, you will reach the Spree directly. Downstream, use the idyllic footpath on the left side. After about 2.5 km, you will reach the Spreewehrmühle where you can take a first break. Cross the Große Spreewehr with the new fish ladder and hike back upstream on the right side. After about 1.5 km, test your physical fitness at the Spreemeile. The journey continues directly along the Spree. There are frequent turns to the historic old town and the Mühleninsel with the art museum. Just before the Stadion der Freundschaft, cross the railway line on a pedestrian bridge and reach the Eliaspark. On hot summer days, children enjoy playing at the nearby water playground. The hike continues past the Spreeauenpark, Tierpark, and Fürst-Pückler-Park Branitz. Want to cheat a little on the way? Then take a few stops with the park railway to the Park & Schloss Branitz stop. Nearby is the Kiekebuscher Wehr right on the Spree. On the other side of the river, after about 1.5 km, you reach the Markgrafenmühle. A tree-lined path leads downstream back towards the city center. Once youve passed the railway tracks, its just a few hundred meters to the city center. The Spremberger Turm is clearly visible for orientation. Through the city promenade and along the historic city wall, you will reach the starting and ending point.And what can be discovered along the way or with small detours?
