Description by the author

The gateway to the Niederlausitz region is located between the River Spree, Lake Schwielochsee and the River Schlaube. It is an area of boundless tranquillity, an untouched natural landscape and an unspoilt environment. In the midst of these beautiful surroundings lies the town of Friedland. Not far from Lake Schwielochsee, the longest lake in the State of Brandenburg, at 13 kilometres, Friedland is an ideal starting point for lengthy walks and bicycle tours or active relaxation on the water.Length: 13 kilometres (3.5 hours)Start: Friedland CastleFinish: Niewisch by Lake SchwielochseeLogo/route sign: not specifiedHow to get there: From Berlin along the A10, A12 and the B168 to Friedland (around 1.5 hours)Return journey: Walk back from Niewisch for about 1 kilometre to Möllen. From here take bus no. 402 to Friedland, back to your car (about 15 minutes).Route: Friedland, Zeust, Friedland, Möllen, NiewischRoute description: Here you will find one natural gem after another, strung out like a string of pearls. In the town, you will come across another of the three Strele castles in the administrative district of Oder-Spree. The Strele Castle was built at the beginning of the 13th century and was used by the Order of St. John’s until its acquisition by the town in 1875. They used the castle to live in. Today, it houses a German-Polish exhibition centre presenting the history of the way people have lived over the last 100 years, amongst other things. Once you have stilled your thirst for knowledge, it’s time to deal with your physical well-being. The wonderfully homely castle tavern provides the ideal opportunity for this. For those who prefer to eat outdoors, we recommend a picnic by the Friedländer Ponds.Sights:Historic Strele Castle of FriedlandBathing area by Lake SchwielochseeUnderfoot conditions/surface: Not specifiedMaps/Literature:"Radwander- und Wanderkarte Schwielochsee, Beeskow und Umgebung: Ausflüge zwischen Tauche, Märkische Heide, Liebrose und Friedland.", 1:35,000, Verlag: Barthel, A., Auflage: 2 (1.
