Description by the author

Whether the stunning natural spectacle of the pheasant's eye flowering on the sloping banks of the River Oder is as old as the historic bishops’ seat of Lebus is probably in doubt, but it has been attracting nature lovers year after year. Alongside pheasant's eye, the slopes of the Oder are home to an incredible diversity of plant species that have adapted to their location by changing the way they live and grow. A nature trail tells you all about these special flowers.
You can also reach Lebus, one of the oldest towns in Brandenburg, by bicycle on the Oder-Neiße Cycle Path. The former bishops’ city first appeared in chronicles in 1109. Two parts of the town, one on the Lebus plateau and the other at its foot next to the River Oder, dominate the scene The Burgberg, divided into the Turmberg, Schlossberg and Pletschenberg, is an elevation that can be seen from afar. The castle, which served as the seat of bishops from 1129 to 1373, has been reconstructed with steel elements. The outlines of the foundation walls of the cathedral are marked out in cobblestones. Below the Burgberg stands the historic parish church which was destroyed and rebuilt a number of times. The heavy fighting in the spring of 1945 destroyed 97 percent of Lebus. A comprehensive insight into the history of the bishopric, the region and the town of Lebus is provided by the Museum Haus Lebuser Land, with images, archaeological finds and other exhibits.
