An attractive walk around Lake Templiner See (southern part) takes you along the water and offers beautiful views of the lake. At the end of the hike you come to Einstein’s Summer House via forest paths and can explore the town of Caputh.
Starting point: Tussy II ferry, Strasse der Einheit, Caputh
Distance: 11 kilometres, walking time: 3 hours

Directions: Train: RB 23 from Potsdam central station to Caputh-Schwielowsee station, then along the Caputh Gemünde strait to the Tussy ferryBus: take bus 607 from Potsdam as far as FeldstrasseSights: Caputh ferry TussyLake PetzinseeRailway bridge with a lovely viewEinstein’s Summer House in CaputhRoute description:
After crossing over on the ferry Tussy II, follow the road to Geltow, initially on the footpath and cycle path on the left. A few metres beyond the Wentorfgraben bridge, turn right into a forest path, which will take you to Lake Petzinsee and the lakeside road Am Petzinsee. The next few kilometres of the hike follow this asphalted road. A first bathing area with sunbathing lawn awaits you shortly before the end of the lake. Then you cross the railway line to Potsdam-Pirschheide. Soon you will have to decide whether to walk through the campsite or use the path around it (the campsite is closed on a seasonal basis).
Continue along the paved lakeside road. When a dirt track forks right near the shore, continue along this past a large hotel complex until you finally see the railway embankment through Lake Templiner See in front of you. Between the shore and the railway embankment your path now bears right until you reach the bridge. You finally reach the pedestrian area of the bridge via convenient steps. From this platform you have an excellent view of all of Potsdam’s prominent buildings (exception: the palaces in Sanssouci Park are hidden) and also Caputh. The dam was built in 1955/56, enabling completion of the Berlin outer railway ring. The dam has a total length of 1250 metres, the bridge measures 140 metres.
You now leave the bridge and follow the dam until you reach the Potsdam – Caputh road. After the restaurant Forsthaus Templin, there is an attractive forest path: this is quite strenuous but it is worth the effort since it passes Einstein’s Summer House. It is easier to get to the beginning of Caputh if you continue along the footpath/cycle path. The following route is recommended for the last stage through Caputh,: Potsdamer Strasse – Lindenstrasse – Schlosspark – Weberstrasse – Strasse der Einheit – starting point.
