Description by the author

The Fontane hiking trail provides lovely views across the Krimnicksee, Krüpelsee and Zernsdorfer See lakes from the promenade along the River Staabe in Neue Mühle and further along the route. In Zernsdorf, the path runs for about 2 kilometres alongside a main road, Karl-Marx-Strasse. The last section follows the Dahme Cycle Path, which is sufficiently wide here, through a nature reserve and marshland area. There are several cafés and restaurants along the way.

Fontane’s “Wanderungen durch die Mark Brandenburg” contains a separate chapter about Königs Wusterhausen. In the fourth volume, entitled “Spreeland”, the poet and travel writer Theodor Fontane wrote: “Königs Wusterhausen is perhaps more entwined with the history of the life and reign of King Frederick William I than any other place except Potsdam. This is where, as a boy, he drilled his ‘cadets’ and, a few years later, his ‘bodyguard regiment’.”

Length: about 13 kilometres, about 3 hours
