The Wannsee-Babelsberg Route runs along the banks of the River Havel and its lakes, right through the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin” and past Glienicke Bridge, which marks the border between Berlin and Potsdam.
A detour to Babelsberg Park with its richly decorated garden terraces, flower beds and aquatic features is rewarded with a spectacular view of the World Heritage Site towards Glienicke Palace and Park. The Glienicke Palace Park created by Lenné is a true gem within the UNESCO World Heritage Site. With the Palace, Casino, Remise and Orangery, Prince Charles of Prussia made his dream of an Italian-style villa come true, and had Glienicke Palace built by architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel in classicist style.
