Cultural Experience Bicycle Tour: Cottbus – Burg (Spreewald) – Cottbus

Cottbus and the Spreewald are linked by the idyllic landscape of the Spree meadows. Urban life in Cottbus is combined with unspoilt nature, bicycle paths and picnic areas en route in the Spreewald – the perfect place to spend the day dreaming and exploring. At the charming local history museum in Dissen you will find an exhibition on the way of life of the Sorbian/Wendish farmers: “Stary Lud” just behind the museum and the village church is a hands-on demonstration of history you can admire that brings the Slavic Middle Ages back to life. In this small settlement with 5 miners’ houses, you might think the residents had just gone out to work in the field.
When you arrive in Burg (Spreewald), be sure to climb the Bismarck Tower. There is hardly a better view of the Spreewald. Cyclists can relax their legs particularly well on a cruise on the Spree in Burg – a labyrinthine river that is at its most beautiful between Burg and Lübben. With its lovingly assembled exhibits, Burg local history parlour provides insights into Sorbian/Wendish life and the customs of the inhabitants.
On the return journey, a stop at Werben church is recommended. The fruits, vegetables and flowers painted on a wood-beamed ceiling are particularly remarkable. Via Briesen and Sielow you get back to the city centre of Cottbus again.
