Already in the Middle Ages, pilgrims embarked on the long journey to Santiago de Compostela on foot, by wagon, or on horseback. In eastern Brandenburg, there is a section of the European network of the Way of St. James that follows the historical route. In Frankfurt (Oder), the Jakobsweg coming from Poland intersects with the Brandenburg Jakobswege. From there, three paths lead westward. One of them is the Jakobsweg to Teltow, where it meets the Via Imperii just south of Berlin. The stretch of the path is mostly characterized by rural landscapes, with fields and wooded areas alternating with small villages. It becomes a bit more urban only in the cities of Frankfurt (Oder), Fürstenwalde, and Berlin with its many sights. The Jakobsweg follows an old trade and pilgrimage route, the current A12, until Fürstenwalde. From there, it follows the Spree River near the gates of Berlin to Erkner. Passing through the Berlin districts of Köpenick, Rudow, and Marienfelde, it partially follows the Berlin Wall Trail to the old town of Teltow.Length: 115 km (4 - 5 days)Start: Frankfurt (Oder) / Destination: TeltowTrail marking: stylized yellow shell on a blue background.
