Lake tour around the Untersee

The lakes of the Upper and Lower Lakes of the Kyritz chain of lakes stretch for many kilometers from Bork and Lellichow via Kyritz to Wusterhausen - a true paradise for nature lovers. Attentive observers can discover otters and beavers, coots, great crested grebes, herons, wild geese, swans and even the red kite and the white-tailed eagle on a hike.
On the almost completely untouched, dammed Obersee, long walks on the beach can be done in summer when the water is low.
Around the Untersee, an 19 kilometer long, natural hiking trail invites you to actively discover nature. Again and again, trees and reeds offer delightful views of the lake. Not only at the annual Kyritz regatta days, the many sailing boats here offer an impressive picture.
Between Kyritz and Wusterhausen, the path runs on the west side of the lake on the Berlin - Wilsnack pilgrimage route. In Stolpe, a short detour to the enchanted forest canal is recommended. You can also take a look at the Obersee dam in Stolpe. In 1979 the Dosse-Speicher, the largest lowland reservoir in the former GDR, was put into operation.

From May to September a ferry runs from the Kyritzer Ufer across the Untersee Island to Bantikow. The ferry times are published before the start of the season on the website above.In Wusterhausen and Kyritz, the lake can also be reached via local public transport with regional train 73 and bus routes 711 and 701.
The hiking trail leads through dense forests, further over meadows, along fields and between Bantikow and Stolpe on footbridges over a moor. The beach baths of Wusterhausen and Kyritz, boat and bathing jetties, the campsites of Bantikow and Wusterhausen as well as boathouses and holiday bungalows are passed. Numerous benches invite you to rest, various bathing areas invite you to jump into the water.
In the restaurants located directly on the lake in Wusterhausen and Bantikow as well as on the Untersee island, the Kyritz chain of lakes can also be discovered and enjoyed from a culinary point of view.
