Brandenburg Castles Tour

"The Sandbox" or "Fontane´s Rambling Country" – Brandenburg has many nicknames. “Region of Castles and Manor Houses” could easily be another. Nowhere else in Germany are there as many grand historic residences of the aristocracy in such a small area. On a tour of Brandenburg´s castles, which is split into cyclist-friendly north and south loops, you can visit some outstanding examples of stately homes, past and present. In Steinhöfel, for example, on the northern route, where the elegant 18th century palace with its English park is regarded as one of the most attractive homes of the nobility in Brandenburg. The Park surprises with its old trees, small temples and many figures.
You shouldn´t miss the castle of Reichenow. You get there from Obersdorf via quiet country roads. This house is the youngest member on the route. There is also a nice swimming area here. Sounds like a perfect place for a little break. Today the castle of Reichenow is a hotel, so its possible to spend the night in a castle.
Wulkow Palace is just as fine. Neuhardenberg Palace is a real gem. The extensive complex with its Schinkel church and wonderful park is one of the countries´s few preserved “gesamtkunstwerks” from the classicist era. In the southern section of the route, there is the historic town of Beeskow, where the town´s medieval wall and castle can still be admired today.
You should definitely have sufficient time in your luggage on the Castle Tour. Each of the aristocratic residences and mansions is an invitation to linger.
