Description by the author

Hiking trail or adventure playground? The hiking trail through the Sperenberg gypsum quarries offers both! The circular trail is not too long, runs partly along paths promising adventure, and rising gently up and down between the former gypsum quarries and clay pits. There is plenty of interesting information about the geology of this region and the history of gypsum and clay mining. All in all, a recommended family hike. However, all members of the family must be able to walk unaided – as the trail is not suitable for buggies due to the rough nature of the trail. The trail makes several loops between the plaster quarries and clay pits, taking you on an interesting journey of discovery. Although the description describes a circular trail, this is only a recommendation and the trail can be varied by taking different loops or shortcuts.Length: 12 kilometres (4.5 hours)Start / finish: SperenbergLogo / route sign: Yellow spot against a white background. How to get there:Train: Take the RE5 (Elsterwerda) to Wünsdorf-Waldstadt from Berlin Central Station (Hauptbahnhof).
