Description by the author

Like a mountain stream, the Schlaube ripples through the narrow valley. Here whispering, there silent, sometimes giggling, sometimes rushing, sometimes a gentle meadow stream. The narrow path winds along the course of the river below the wooded slopes. Sometimes you have to climb over rotten trees or fight your way through thick ferns. The grey wagtail hops from stone to stone, the tapping of the woodpecker echoes through the forest and the nearest tree has been felled by a beaver. Only a few steps further, a quiet lake spreads out and a majestic white-tailed eagle circles high above. At any time of year, the Schlaubetal presents itself with fascinating images.

Current information: The hiking trail lies in the African swine fever core zone. Please follow the instructions of the respective districts (Oder-Spree and Märkisch Oderland).

Highlights in the Schlaubetal:Personal forest stage: Hiking through one of the most beautiful stream valleys in Brandenburg. Performers: oneself and the changing Schlaube. Other characters: shimmering lakes, dense magical forests, dark swamps, rare animal and plant species and dreamy old mills.Schlaubetalwanderweg: Challenging trekking day tour over the entire length. Shorter day stages and other options in the hiking region are also possible. The A400 excursion line offers access and exit points and is coordinated with the railway timetable. Alternatively, stay at nature campsites, hotels and guesthouses or youth hostels.Bathing: At Treppel, Schervenz and Müllros lakes.Focused: Refuges, rest stops and photo spots for nature and bird watchingTour tip 1 "Mastering the entire route": Wirchensee to Müllrose, 28km, approx. 7h
The Schlaubetalwanderweg is a varied hiking trail on which you get to know the entire scenic diversity of the Schlaubetal. To complete the entire route as a challenging day tour, you can hike the trail, which runs in a north-south direction, in either direction. If you travel by public transport, we recommend that you start in the south and hike north. This makes it easier for you to plan your return journey by bus or train from Müllrose, the destination of the tour, without any time pressure.

Tour tip 2 "The wild south": From Wirchensee via Bremsdorfer Mühle to Kupferhammer, 19.5km, approx. 5.5 - 6 hrs.
If you want to take it a little easier, you can also take a partial stage of the Schlaubetalwanderweg. Start at the Schlaubemühle mill in Treppeln. Before you follow the blue S on the signposts to the north, you can take a detour around the remote Wirchensee lake (approx. 1 h extra). A look at the small peninsula in the middle of the lake is worthwhile: numerous bird species breed here. After a short but steep climb, you can enjoy the view of the water from Försterblick, 112 metres above the lake. If you are lucky, you may see an osprey hunting!

Now on the official Schlaube Valley hiking trail, the Schlaube sometimes greets you at close range, sometimes it hides away in the primeval forest-like reeds and marshes. Before you get to the Bremsdorfer Mühle (mill), which is well worth seeing, it becomes wild and romantic. On a narrow trail you follow the Schlaube through the deep valley that the small river has cut into the landscape. Some of the trail leads up steps and along densely wooded, steep slopes - almost like a low mountain range.

If necessary, you can end the tour at the Bremsdorfer Mühle and use the excursion bus line for the return journey. We recommend that you extend your hiking adventure and hike to Kupferhammer. As an alternative to the designated route, you can also use the particularly natural trail on the western shore of the lake, which later rejoins the Schlaubetalwanderweg. You can also make a detour to the Himmel & Hölle (Heaven & Hell) vantage point and go on a visual eagle hunt in the birdwatching hut. The idyllic Forsthaus Siehdichum and the Restaurant Kupferhammer invite you to refill your energy stores. Tour tip 2 ends at the Kupferhammer bus stop, where the A400 bus offers connections to Müllrose or Jacobsdorf and to RE1.

Tour tip 3: "The gentle Schlaube": from Bremsdorfer Mühle to Müllrose, 19km, approx. 5.5 - 6hrs.
In the north, the route becomes increasingly flat. The Schlaube gradually widens and the landscape shows its gentler side. The forest opens up again and again, offering beautiful views and views of the water. At the Bremsdorfer Mühle youth hostel, the trail leads along the western shore of the Treppelsee lake. The path winds through the forest. The sun makes the water glow a brilliant turquoise. What a play of colours.
The Ragow Mill lies idyllically and quietly in the middle of the Lower Schlaube Valley nature reserve. Today's technical monument houses a restaurant with a cosy, family atmosphere, regional specialities and a popular beer garden. How about a red draught beer from Neuzelle on the shady terrace?

Finally, the small river flows into the Great Müllros Lake. If you haven't had enough water yet, you can refresh yourself in the open-air swimming pool on the eastern shore of the lake. Finally you come to Müllrose. By the way, the curious place name has nothing to do with "rubbish", but is the Germanised version of the original Sorbian name "Miloraz".
