Fritz-Wunderlich-Radweg

After the first 5 km from Altenglan to Kusel, the Fritz Wunderlich cycle path, named after the great singer born in Kusel, uses the entire route of a former railroad line via 2 high viaducts and 2 tunnels. The predominantly water-bound surface and the route over the old railroad line, which is mostly densely surrounded by bushes and trees, give the path a quiet, natural character.

The 26 km long Fritz Wunderlich Trail begins at Altenglan railroad station. Via Rammelsbach, it reaches the district town of Kusel, where it follows a former railroad line to Freisen in the Saarland. From Kusel, the Fritz Wunderlich Trail gently climbs away from any roads and opens up the North Palatinate uplands. Lichtenberg Castle is reached via the "Around Lichtenberg Castle" tour with moderate inclines or in Thallichtenberg with a steep incline via the country road. The Rhineland-Palatinate cycle route towards Baumholder and the castle cycle path also branch off in Thallichtenberg. Many bridges and a tunnel characterize the route; a particular highlight is the viaduct in Oberkirchen, which impressively spans the village and the valley. And the Fritz Wunderlich Trail has another special feature to offer: Between Kusel and Pfeffelbach, there are no intersections with other traffic routes - the Fritz Wunderlich Trail scores particularly highly for families thanks to its high level of safety and a great experience of nature.

The route logo shows the cheerfully waving Kusel cyclist and a large red note, which reflects the connection to the Kusel tenor Fritz Wunderlich. In Saarland, the route is marked by an orange sign with the route inscription.
