Little effort - big return. This is how you could summarize the one-hour walk around the Hornberg basin. The distant views of the Alps and the Upper Black Forest, which you can enjoy without any great physical effort, are second to none.
Built between 1970 and 1975, the Hornberg basin forms the Wehr pumped storage power plant together with the Wehratal dam. For the construction of the structure, the highest elevation in the Hotzenwald, the 1039m-high Lange Eck, was removed and the terrain then deepened accordingly and additionally raised with a dam crest. At 1050m, it is now the highest freely accessible point in the region. The highest natural peak, 1026m high and located in the immediate vicinity, is crowned by the Ödland Chapel, which is well worth a visit.
