Beautiful circular hike, past the Ödland Chapel to the viewing tower. Depending on the weather, you can see as far as the Swiss Alps.
The "Gugelturm" lookout tower is, like the Hornberg basin and the Ödland Chapel, a very popular hiking destination. The Black Forest Association built the unconventional wooden structure between 1971 and 1974. With a height of 30 m and a viewing platform at a height of 16 m, it offers a view over the entire Hotzenwald. The Gugelturm is held up by 3 pylons, each 30 m long, which lead to each other in a tricorn shape. The viewing platform is suspended from 3 wire ropes with a diameter of 24 mm. The viewing platform can be reached via a spiral staircase with 90 steps made of galvanized steel grating.
The Ödland Chapel was built in 1780 by pious Hotzenwald residents as thanks for the fact that their cattle had been spared from the cattle plague. Today, the chapel invites visitors to meditate and rest. The Ödland Chapel is located at the highest point of the Hotzenwald between Herrischried and Hornberg.
