FREI.GANG on the heights through the Altburg districts

The FREI.GANG Auf der Höhe through the Altburg districts takes you around the highest district of Calw, Altburg. On this entertaining hike, you can not only enjoy the tranquillity of the natural forests and orchards, but also discover some cultural highlights. In Altburg, which is steeped in history, we recommend a detour to the Altburg Bohnenberg history trail. Here you can learn all about the Altburg observatory and the famous Professor Johann Gottlieb Friedrich von Bohnenberger.The FREI.GANG leads over gentle hills and light-flooded mixed forests through the two Altburg districts of Speßhardt and Weltenschwann. In the idyllic villages of the two districts, you can discover one or two gems along the way. For example, the "Speßhardt Cathedral", a lovingly restored bell house on the Rötelbach stream, or the old schoolhouse in Weltenschwann, where you can enjoy a picnic in the shade of the chestnut trees by the Rötelbach stream.

The section up to Spindlershof is a popular high trail, where a magical little world lies at our feet.

The FREI.GANG runs on partly asphalted, partly gravel paths. In the forest, you hike on wide, well-surfaced forest paths. After the old schoolhouse in Weltenschwann, you turn onto a rooted, natural path through the forest, which offers plenty of space to avoid obstacles.
