Traumschleife Der Bietzerberger

This hiking trail presents impressive panoramic views far into France, across to the Saar Loop and the heights of the Hochwald forest. A varied and inspiring tour along hidden streams, open meadows and fields, winding paths and through shady forests.

Almost 200 bunkers were built on the Bietzerberg during the Second World War as part of the Westwall fortifications. Some of these bunkers - most of which were blown up - are located directly on the edge of the path.Between Bietzen and Menningen, there are fruit trees in the orchards around the villages on every visual axis. The stone sculpture "Sonnenstein" by Prof. Paul Schneider, which is part of a group of twelve stone sculptures on the Bietzerberg, is located at the "Dreieckigen Wäldchen". On the plateau of the mountain, the path leads to the "Saarlouiser Berg" viewpoint, one of the most beautiful distant views in Saarland.In the Bietzener forest, the Bietzerberg meets the "WilderWaldWeg" nature trail, which leads over long wooden footbridges, unpaved forest paths and trails.

In the Wolferskopf nature reserve, there are stone witnesses to the Franco-German past. The trail partly follows the historic border from 1778.

On a flower meadow at the edge of the forest, where orchids bloom in early summer, there are more fantastic views of the Saar valley. Another impressive view of the Saarlouis basin and flower meadows from the sunbathing area in the Wolferskopf nature reserve.

The trail has been awarded 71 experience points by the German Hiking Institute.
