We hike along trails steeped in history through beautiful dense forests and the mystical marshy moorland of the "Oberthaler Bruch". The Rötelsteinpfad repeatedly offers picturesque views of the Nahe, which is still young at this point, and passes many a relic from ancient times.
The Rötelsteinpfad leads through forests, secluded gorges and picturesque stream valleys around the summit of the 512-metre-high "Leisberg" over 15 kilometers. The name of this tour goes back to the iron oxide-containing clay stones, also known as "Rötel", which were dug in this area for many centuries and were used for the production of industrial and artificial paints. Information points along the tour provide hikers with interesting details about the extraction and use of red chalk.
