Traumschleife Panoramaweg Perl

The German-French Hammelsberg nature reserve is the highlight of this entertaining hike above the Saarland wine-growing community of Perl. Seventeen different wild orchid species thrive on the sun-drenched limestone soils on the southern slope of the 30-hectare nature reserve. Fantastic views of Luxembourg, France and the Moselle valley round off this impressive hike in the border region between Germany and France.

After Oberperl, the primeval forest seems to begin. Creepers, ivy and lianas hang from the trees, the path winds along the slope and unexpected views into the thicket reveal themselves around every bend.

Dreamy views of the Moselle valley and far into the Lorraine basin follow.

On the left is the Lorraine municipality of Sierck-les-Bain. The former castle from the 11th century was converted into a fortress by Vauban. On the other side of the Moselle, the border between France and Luxembourg runs along the Stromberg. Directly on the banks of the Moselle, Schengen, the municipality in Luxembourg where European history was written.

Vines grow on the slopes of the Moselle in France, Luxembourg and Germany. Only a few kilometers on the right bank of the Moselle, wine is grown in Saarland and only Perl can adorn itself with the attribute "wine-growing community".

On the sun-drenched limestone soils on the southern slope of the Hammelsberg, seventeen different wild orchid species and around a dozen orchids thrive in the 30-hectare nature park. The biotope of maple-ash forest in combination with extensive areas of semi-dry limestone grassland has become home to many heat-loving animal and plant species. If you're lucky, you can spot the praying mantis on warm and dry spring days.
