Traumschleife Beckinger Saarblicke

Views as far as the Lorraine Steps, the Saar Valley, the Schaumberg and the Spicherer Heights outside the state capital of Saarbrücken characterize this varied hiking trail through quiet stream valleys, the Wolferskopf nature reserve and the heights around Beckingen. The trail impresses with geographical features such as sandstone and limestone quarries with lime kilns and diverse fauna and flora.

Behind the old railroad station complex, where the information center for the Wolferskopf nature reserve is located, the trail climbs 200 metres up to the Fischerberghaus. There are old bunkers along the way. On the way, there is an old limestone quarry with a lime kiln. From the terrace of the Fischerberghaus high above the Saar, you have a wonderful view of the Saar valley. The Vierwegepunkt is the highest point of the hike. The view is breathtaking: the Saar valley spreads out, with the Lorraine Steps, the Litermont, the Wahlener Platte, the Black Forest, the Schaumberg, the Siersburg, Ensdorf and Dillingen behind it. The landmark of the Wolferskopf nature reserve is an extremely rare grasshopper: the warthog. More than 450 plant species grow in the nature reserve. These include various orchid species, the yellow asparagus bean and the fringed gentian. The descent takes you along the historic border of 1778 between the Kingdom of France and the Electorate of Trier. Mighty border sandstone blocks are a reminder of that time.A restored Westwall bunker can be visited in Haustadt. The route leads back to Beckingen through the Kondelerbach valley. Along the oxbow lake of the Saar, you reach the Saar and shortly afterwards the Saar-Garten-Beckingen. An open park has been created on an area of 32,000 square meters.The trail has been awarded 63 experience points by the German Hiking Institute.
