Description by the author

Rems meets Neckar: The first stage of the Remstal cycle route takes us through the wine region of Württemberg as well as through landscapes and nature reserves.

PLEASE NOTE: there is a full closure of the cycle path between Remseck-Neckarrems and the Klinglestraße in Waiblingen-Kleinhegnach until probably spring 2024 due to tree felling and path work. Please click HERE for the GPX track of the detour!

The stage starts at Weinstadt-Endersbach railroad station, where you can also park. The tour is somewhat hilly overall and leads through a typically Swabian wine and fruit-growing landscape with extensive vineyards, orchards and allotments along the way. At the end, the stage crosses the nature reserve in the lower Rems valley.First, the route climbs gently into the vineyards above Weinstadt and soon descends rapidly back down to Strümpfelbach. In addition to outstanding wines and the sculpture trail by the renowned Nuss family of artists, the village's half-timbered façade is well-known far and wide. The route continues through meadows and fields to Kernen, also known for its excellent wines. Now a hilly section begins, up and down through vineyards and orchards and soon Fellbach is reached, where excellent wines are also produced. Right at the entrance to the town, the tour passes the Neue Kelter. Here, Fellbach wines can be tasted and purchased.Fellbach is partly crossed on so-called "cycle paths". The following applies here: motor vehicle traffic is permitted, but cyclists have right of way. The cycle path leads through the picturesque town center past the train station and then out of Fellbach. The ride continues briskly in wide bends through the greenery down to the Neckar, which now becomes a constant companion until Remseck - first along the right bank, then over a small bridge to the left bank.

In Remseck, the Neckar is crossed on a glass-roofed wooden bridge, which has since become a Remseck landmark thanks to its bold architecture and construction. This is where the Rems flows into the Neckar. We recommend taking a long break on the newly designed Neckar island in front of the new town hall building. Gastronomy with regional and Mediterranean cuisine in a stylish ambience is available. The newly created river meadows and division of the Neckar and Rems rivers have created unique adventure and recreation areas on water and land.

The most scenic section of the stage begins just after Remseck and follows the Rems upstream. Here, the river meanders through the green forest and floodplain landscape of the "Untere Rems" nature reserve. The cycle path follows the Rems as closely as possible, sometimes closer, sometimes further away. Cyclists don't have to concentrate on the path and can enjoy the breathtaking river landscape without restriction. The Staufer town of Waiblingen, administrative center of the Rems-Murr district, is reached much too quickly and the cyclist can end the tour comfortably in a café in the old town with a cup of cappuccino. If there is still time, a tour of the town is recommended. Winding alleyways, fortified city walls and impressive half-timbered houses beckon.
