Description by the author

Five mills line the path through the valley surrounded by forest up to the Staufer castle of Guttenberg.

In Bad Wimpfen, the starting point of the tour, there is Staufer history to explore. The largest imperial palace north of the Alps invites you to visit before the sound of the waves accompanies hikers on the path above the Neckar river. You reach Guttenberg Castle via Bad Rappenau-Heinsheim with its Jewish cemetery, which is one of the most interesting in Germany in terms of art history.

At the Staufer castle, the flight demonstrations of the German Griffin Observatory or the exciting castle museum provide entertainment. If you like, you can take a detour below the castle to the church on the right. The church is worth a visit if only because Protestant sermons were preached here for the first time in the entire region at Christmas 1521 and the lord of the castle gave shelter to pastors who had joined Luther's reform and were therefore persecuted.

The trail continues into the idyllic Fünfmühlental valley. You will be more than rewarded for the short climbs along the route with wonderful views over vineyards and the Neckar valley, which is rich in castles. Five former water mills line your route, a game reserve provides variety for children and the Mühltalsee lake invites you to take a break.A visit to the Bad Rappenau park landscape with the graduation house in the Salinenpark, the only open-air inhalatorium in Baden-Württemberg, is always worthwhile, as is a detour along the Roman trail. At the Kugelmühle mill, it leads to the Roman lake and the Villa Rustica (country house) uncovered there.

Just before you return to the starting point, you will pass the Fleckinger Mühle mill. The ideal resting place for the end of this beautiful tour. Fortify yourself with a snack and homemade cider for the last stretch to Bad Wimpfen.
