The Harz Foresters Trail opens up the scenic beauty, the diversity of different habitats, and the historical peculiarities of the Western Harz region to hikers over almost 60 kilometers.
The Harz Foresters Trail runs from the historical imperial city of Goslar via Wolfshagen, passing through the mining towns of Lautenthal, Wildemann, and Bad Grund to the plateaus around Clausthal-Zellerfeld. It leads south past Buntenbock and Lerbach to Riefensbeek-Kamschlacken near Osterode. It touches three important reservoirs of the Western Harz region: the Granetalsperre, the Innerste-Talsperre, and the Sösetalsperre.
The hiking trail is marked by numerous viewpoints and connects essential elements that characterize the Western Harz region: rugged scenic diversity, different forest types and habitats, historical mining, water use, flood protection, as well as gentle and sustainable timber use combined with the transformation of non-site-appropriate tree stands.
In many parts, the trail integrates the historical Innerste Rennstieg, which was already used in the Bronze Age for transporting goods and transmitting messages.
The Harz Foresters Trail starts directly at the Imperial Palace in Goslar, runs above Astfeld to the Granetalsperre and via Wolfshagen to the Innerste-Talsperre, climbs the heights near Lautenthal and Seesen from there, leads above Wildemann and Bad Grund to Clausthal-Zellerfeld and Buntenbock, and descending via Lerbach, follows along the Sösetalsperre to end in Riefensbeek-Kamschlacken.
