Along the quiet meadows of the Elbe and the Mulde, this tour leads for about 60 km, passing by castles, parks, alleys, and small architectural features that are beautifully intertwined.

The tour starts from Großkühnau (Dessau) through Kühnauer Park with Weinbergschlösschen to Georgium Palace and Park, across the hunting bridge at the Mulde, through Sieglitzer Park and the Elbe meadows to the Wörlitz Gardens, through Oranienbaum further to the beaver enclosure and the Auenhaus information center in Mildensee, through the Mulde meadows and the Mosigkauer Heide to Mosigkau Palace and Park.

Route description

From Dessau main train station, a signposted path leads along the B 184 to Mosigkau Palace. Shortcuts are possible from the main train station via Georgium to the Elbe Cycle Path. From Mosigkau, the themed cycle path continues to Großkühnau to Kühnauer Palace, where the Dessau-Wörlitz Cultural Foundation is located, and through Kühnauer Park.

Continue on the Elbe Cycle Path to the Elbe north of Dessau. A small detour to Georgium Palace and Park is recommended from the Elbe Cycle Path. Georgium was built by Prince Johann Georg in 1780. It is located in close proximity to Dessau main train station and thus also serves as the starting point for the circular tour.

From Georgium, head to the Elbe Cycle Path. A detour leads to Luisium, located east of Dessau city center. Here you can see a small neoclassical palace with a charming park. Then, northeast of Luisium, head to Sieglitzer Berg, designed in 1780 with Walltor and Dianentempel on the high bank of the Elbe.

The town of Wörlitz, located 17 kilometers east of Dessau, gained worldwide fame for its famous park, the first English landscape park on the European mainland. The entire park seems random - but is meticulously planned down to the smallest detail. Wörlitz itself is a very inviting place with numerous restaurants and cafes. The neo-Gothic St. Petri town church with its 66-meter high tower can be climbed. Bikes can be parked at the large parking lot. Cycling in the park is not allowed.

South of Wörlitz, the Garden Realm Tour continues to Oranienbaum. The town was established at the end of the 17th century. Its regular layout is determined by the straight axes of the Baroque style. The builder was Princess Henriette Catharina, originally from the House of Nassau-Orange.

From Oranienbaum, the circular route continues on the EuroVelo R1 route, passing by the beaver enclosure and the Auenhaus information center of the Middle Elbe River Landscape Biosphere Reserve. Passing by the Tower of the 8 Winds (Napoleon Tower) on L 131 in Dessau-Mildensee.

From the Tower of the 8 Winds, head south of Dessau back to the starting point in Mosigkau.
