Description

This circular hiking trail starts and ends in the Bodetal village of Altenbrak and takes you to the Stemberghaus charcoal burners hut and to the Schöneburg, an elevated viewpoint with a magnificent view over Altenbrak and into the Bodetal.

Route description

The starting point of this partially steep ascent hike is the central hiking signpost tree in the large parking lot in Altenbrak, from where it goes upstream, following the signs to Stemberghaus (green square), passing by historical old mining works and the Small Mühlental.

Leaving the Bodetal, you steadily climb through the Great Mühlental until you reach the charcoal burners settlement Stemberghaus (refreshment stop & museum).

The return journey takes you on the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg (green witch) to the Schöneburg viewpoint, where you have a unique view of Altenbrak. From here, you descend into the Bodetal to the trout breeding facility, and then continue on the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg following the course of the Bode river, passing by the Great and Small Mühlental, until you reach the starting point of the hike at the large parking lot.
