Description

An easy hike along the Andreas, Sack, and Brunsteich lakes passing by the Sachseneiche, the Helbinghütte to the Sachsensteinhütte (Stamp 166), leading further to the Loren monument in Neuhof to the Historical Gypsum Kiln (Stamp 192). Then continuing to the viewpoint at Mehholz, to the Kutzhütte and along the Höllsteinklippen cliffs back to the train station in Walkenried.

Directions

From the train station in Walkenried, embark on a beautiful approximately 9 km long hike through a varied landscape. The trail starts along the Walkenried fishing area, the Andreas, Sack, and Brunsteich lakes, merges between Bruns and Sackteich into the Karst trail, which you follow for a while. The lakes are truly idyllic. The next highlights are the Sachseneiche, an approximately 850-year-old oak tree (natural monument), and the Helbinghütte. From here, it is only a stones throw to the first stamp station of the HWN on this hike, the Sachsensteinhütte (Stamp 166). Sitting in front of the Sachsensteinhütte, you have a magnificent view of the Harz foothills with its diverse fields. After resting, you can then make your way downhill to the next stamp station, the Historical Gypsum Kiln (Stamp 192), passing by the Lorenz monument. Once you have stamped your pass at the stamp station, you can continue your journey to the viewpoint at Mehholz via part of the Neuhöfer circular trail 10. Impressively, you will pass through Kutzhütte and the Höllsteinklippen cliffs, always along the edge of the forest, back to the starting point at the train station in Walkenried.

Directions to Reach

From the direction of Bad Sachsa or Zorge, follow Harzstraße or Bahnhofstraße, then turn right, or if coming from Kutzhütte or Neuhof, turn left right after entering the village towards the train station.
