Description

You are embarking on a moderately difficult approximately 5 km long hike on a section of the Harzer Baudensteig trail with two stamp stations. The hike starts with the ascent to Pferdchen (stamp 58) and then continues along the Harzer Baudensteig to Helenenruh (stamp 160). The return path follows a parallel path as a circular route.

Route Description

Todays hike is a moderately difficult approximately 5 km long hike on a section of the Harzer Baudensteig trail. The ascent begins behind the Heimatmuseum in the spa park with the path leading directly to the first stamp, Pferdchen (stamp 58). The Pferdchen (approx. 430 m above sea level) is a viewpoint high above the southern Harz community of Zorge. The Pferdchen was chosen by our hiker friends as the most beautiful stamp station in 2013. This is due to the wonderful view over Zorge, as well as the fact that the pavilion is always very well-maintained. From here, continue along the Harzer Baudensteig, which is also known as Schöne Aussicht (Beautiful View) until Helenenruh (stamp 160). Helenenruh is the second stamp station on this tour and is also located on the Harzer Hüttenweg between Wieda and Zorge. In the past, the Hüttenweg was used to transport red iron ore extracted from the mining areas of Wieda and Zorge to the blast furnaces in the valley using horse-drawn carts.

Directions

Coming from Walkenried, turn left on the street Am Kurpark, and coming from Hohegeiß or Braunlage, turn right into the parking lot by the church.
