Short description
We invite you to a bike tour around Kalbe (Milde) in the Altmärkische Schweiz.
Description
We would like to take you on a bike tour through the Milde lowlands towards Schenkenhorst and then take a little detour into the Altmärkische Schweiz.
We will ride through beautiful villages with even more beautiful churches. The Wiepker church is even located on the Romanesque Road and can be visited by prior arrangement. In addition, there is a water mill in Wiepke, which can also be visited by appointment.
Directions
We start at the hiking base on Jugend Street. We then head towards the city, at the level of the swimming pool (by the way, always worth a visit in summer), we turn left into the white wall and reach the path along the Milde at the end. We follow this until the Gardelegener Tor. Here we turn left and follow the course of the Milde. A Milderegulierung was already carried out here in the 12th century. Part of the Mildedeich is 2 meters above the surrounding land. We ride through this very beautiful area to the weir just before Schenkenhorst. Here we find a small peculiarity, from the right comes the Wiepker Beecke, it flows under the Milde and then becomes the Königsgraben, which flows back into the Milde below Kalbe (Milde). At the same time, there is an overflow here, so that the city of Kalbe (M) is always protected from floods. As late as the 1960s, the boys could run directly from Wiepke to Kalbe on skates via the Beecke and Milde. There are also seating areas for a rest. Before Schenkenhorst, we turn right over the bridge and then towards the center of the village. 50 meters further to the left, you can see the old manor house of the Alvensleben family. Unfortunately, it cannot be visited. In summer, the popular park singing takes place here. In the middle of the village, we turn right, a short distance on the country road to the Biogas plant. There we turn left and ride through the meadows to Wiepke. Right at the beginning of the village, on the left side, we see the old station of the narrow-gauge railroad Kalbe (M) - Gardelegen. We ride through the village to Federal Highway 71. There we cross this road (traffic light) and continue to Mühlenweg. Here stands a very beautiful ancient water mill. It can be visited by appointment. We continue into the mountains, when we have reached the next hill, half of the route is completed. Upon entering Zichtau, immediately to the left is the holiday park, which offers accommodation options. At the next intersection, we turn right. At the street, we then have the option to turn left and visit the beautiful forest pool or the Gut Zichtau. However, we continue straight past the beautiful church. At the exit of the village, we turn left and then immediately right. We ride through a beautiful avenue. On the right, we can visit a tree calendar/arboretum on a hill. But we turn left at the next intersection. Where the forest begins on both sides, we find another small rest area (An der Nachtweide). We follow the path uphill and at the intersection, we turn right. We continue straight until in the distance we can already see the parking lot on B 71, where there is another opportunity for a rest. We cross the road and keep right. Here, in the last days of World War II, there was a field hospital. At the next intersection, we continue to the right, to then, upon reaching the hilltop, go downhill for a long stretch. Until we reach the small village of Neu Wernstedt. We cross the country road and ride through the village. Then we follow an agricultural path. At the next intersection, we turn right once and then immediately left. We then cycle towards our last small hill, the Pickelsberg. Once at the top, we turn left and at the next intersection in the valley, we turn right and after 100 meters, left again. At the end of this small detour, we can see an old railway bridge of the narrow-gauge railway above the ditch. Here we turn right into the old Plansweg, at the end of which we reach the Milde and thus Kalbe (Milde) again.
