Three Bauden, two viewing towers, all in one day of hiking! You should also enjoy the diverse landscape. After the uplift and emergence of the Harz Mountains from a primordial sea, volcanic activity began. The Großer and the Kleiner Knollen near Herzberg are genuine volcanic cones. The 3rd stage of the BaudenSteig leads up to the Großer Knollen and the Knollenbaude (687 m above sea level). A panoramic destination - on a clear day, the view extends to the Großer Inselsberg in the Thuringian Forest. The Baude has been operated by the same tenants for over 30 years. The hosts keep precise records of who has been up here how many times. One hiker managed almost 3000 visits. The stage then continues to the Großer Knollenkreuz and into the idyllic Luttertal. Then up to the Hohen Kummel. From the Bismarck Tower, on a clear day, you have a gigantic view of familiar mountains such as the Großer Knollen, the Hanskühnenburg, but also of Sankt Andreasberg and the Oderstausee. In the Baude at the Bismarck Tower, you can enjoy homemade cakes and many other delicacies with a fantastic view! Children have fun with the raccoons. In Bad Lauterberg, you should definitely end the day at the Kirchberg Therme or the Vitamar adventure pool.

Directions

Start of the 3rd stage in Sieber at the outdoor pool (S). Then into the Tiefenbeek valley. Take the first opportunity to the right over the bridge (alternatively, follow the forest road straight ahead). Uphill through the Gatzemannstal (1), cross all wide forest paths straight ahead, always follow the steep path upwards. Then almost to the left at the top onto a wide forest path to the Otto-Hermann-Hütte (2). Past a hut on Knollenstraße - a short steeper climb up to the viewing tower (3) and the Baude (refreshments). From the Großer Knollen (4), you have a beautiful view over Scharzfeld, Barbis to Thuringia. A short distance back on the same path and at the bend, now follow the path to the right. Steep descent, cross a wide forest path, and continue through the forest on a path (5) on the other side. Uphill to a clearing. A very short distance to the right, then left downhill along the slope, passing the viewpoint Brockenblick, until the path meets a wide forest path. Here, turn left towards Hentschelköte (6). Straight into the forest towards Bad Lauterberg, Luttertal, Bismarck Tower. Left downhill at the electricity pole in steep hairpin bends (be careful when wet, possibly use sticks). Then right on a wide forest path towards Luttertal to the old forestry house Hohensee (7). Before the café, turn left, after 100m turn right to leave the valley. Steep ascent, then flat through young forest. After a resting bench with a beautiful view, turn right onto a wide forest path uphill. Once at the Bismarck Tower (8), definitely climb the steps up to the tower: Whether its the Oderstausee, Brocken, or Bad Lauterberg - everything is visible. A break at the Baude is worthwhile (refreshments). Past the raccoon enclosure, into the depression, slightly to the left on a narrow path downhill. Past the resting place of the heath poet Hermann Löns down to the edge of the forest. Right on Lönsweg and immediately left. Uphill in hairpin bends to the Hausberg (9) (refreshments). Tip: Float into town with the chairlift. The path passes below the forest inn. Through a narrow path winding through beech forest. Sharp left at the bell tower until stairs lead into the city. Left on Schulstraße to Kirchplatz (10), continue to the house of the guests or to the accommodation.
