When hiking through the southern Harz Mountains, extensive deciduous forests fascinate, interrupted by small meadows and valleys with lively streams flowing through.

Here you will discover in a small area ancient and prehistoric sites, the remains of a medieval feudal castle, beautiful half-timbered houses, the small church, the wooden Roland, and the towering Queste.

Directions

Questenberg - a gem, surrounded by steep cliffs of the Zechstein karst, is located in the middle of a nature reserve. The Karst Trail leads through the village. Follow the markings - the Queste symbol. This circular tour begins with the ascent to the Queste at the southern edge of the village. Here stands the Queste, an ancient symbol with a rich history. Just because of its picturesque location, this circular path is recommended. Enjoy the fantastic view. After descending past the glacial potholes, you reach the Borntal via the Karst Trail towards Dinsterbachschwinde. From Borntal, head back towards Questenberg via the hiking hut.

Every Pentecost weekend, the traditional Questenfest is celebrated here, during which on Pentecost Monday at sunrise, the wreath of the Queste is tied with birch and beech green to a pole about 10 m high.

Tip: Individual or guided hiking tour on Wednesdays, meeting point at Bauerngraben parking lot.
