Hainrode, one of the most beautiful villages in the karst area, is surrounded by deciduous and mixed forests and orchards. A very diverse, but also demanding hike, leads along a section of the karst hiking trail.

Frequent contact with forests and meadows characterizes the nature of this tour: always new impressions arise from the shaped landscape of the karst area. Here, Zechstein deposits with easily soluble gypsum, anhydrite, and salts come to light. The path leads past a disappearing stream, a particularly wild section of the Ankenberg disappearing stream. The bizarre landscape offers a magnificent view. Almost all villagers have maintained the old tradition of the Hainröder Broom Maker Guild for many generations.

This circular tour shows an idyllic village that harmoniously blends into the landscape, with lovingly maintained farm gardens, numerous half-timbered buildings, and a baroque church with a late Romanesque tower part, as well as livestock pastures that radiate peace and harmony in the Southern Harz region. Hainrode was honored in the European Village Competition 2012.
Tip: Come to the traditional village events for the cattle drive or broom maker festival and you will quickly find out why the residents are also called Broom Makers.
